The role of scleractinian corals, at an ecological, economic and scientific level, is of fundamental importance for the survival of the habitat with the highest rate of marine biodiversity on the planet. Coral identification, at genus level, in addition to increasing awareness of the risks that corals are facing, helps to support actions dedicated to their monitoring, research and conservation. Most of the corals illustrated here can be attributed to a genus with a high degree of certainty and minimal taxonomic skills. Of the over 60 genera described, at least half respond absolutely to this statement. After a general introduction, the methodology used and the characteristics of the individual genera are described, of which a series of useful information is provided for their identification. The goal is to help identify this category of organisms, as important for the survival of coral reefs as they are unknown to most of the people, both specialized and non-specialized.
