This new edition of The Intermational Resister of Historic Ships, sponsored by the World Ship Trust, is the most comprehensive listing of surviving historic ships ever published. It contains details of nearly 2000 ships from over 50 countries. Short introductions summarise the background and the state of ship preservation in each country, pointing to particular national treasures, and direct the maritime enthusiast to areas where there are concentrations of historic craft. The ship entries are organised alphabetically by country, but cross-referenced by ship type, and contain the basic data on each vessel, with a brief outline of its career and historical significance. The current state of vessels undergoing restoration is described, and appendices also list parts of ships preserved in museums, the addresses of all organisations owning or managing such vessels, and a detailed bibliography.
