Marine Biology looks at organismal and ecosystem ecology topics from an evolutionary perspective. The first few chapters focus on the principles of oceanography and marine ecology. Then the book looks at marine organisms their function and environment. Chapters that follow this consider organisms in the open sea such as plankton and marine vertebrates. Next the text turns to the patterns and processes in the water column. Then it looks at the organisms of the seabed including benthic microorganisms seaweeds and sea grasses. The next part looks at coastal benthic environments. There are also chapters on the area of the shelf to the deep sea. The latter part of the book concentrates on the human impact on the sea.
