Da molti anni dedico attenzione alla storia del territorio della Anzio romana.  Sono convinto che molto c’è ancora da indagare al fine di interpretare le motivazioni che indussero, con così particolare interesse, una popolazione condotta da uomini con stile pragmatico, ma con evidenti conoscenze tecnico scientifiche provenienti dalle culture forti dei secoli precedenti, ad impegnarsi in un progetto costoso ed articolato. La razionalità e l’efficacia dello sviluppo di Anzio sembrano esprimere un disegno che va al di là di un insediamento spontaneo ed alternativo a Roma; è piuttosto una realizzazione complessa capace di tutelare uno scopo ben più forte. È proprio dalla lettura di testi come questo proposto dal Marigliani che nasce il desiderio di immaginare quale destinazione d’uso avesse un tale progetto. Questo volume si pone come pietra angolare nella interpretazione dello sviluppo della civiltà degli uomini  che, dalla fondazione di Anzio al secolo scorso, hanno determinato la "storia" non solo di questo territorio. Il cammino del potere, dai Sumeri fino ai contemporanei Stati Uniti d’America, passa anche attraverso la storia di Anzio e qui esistono indicazioni che stimolano un approfondimento. È per questo che abbiamo desiderato stimolare Clemente Marigliani alla stesura di questa storia con la sua caratteristica capacità di evidenziare i fatti attraverso le osservazioni del quotidiano, l’analisi del particolare, la rilettura critica di testi antichi, che egli sa, come pochi, far parlare meglio delle raccolte di date, di battaglie, di editti, della cosiddetta storia ufficiale  Questo lavoro iniziato tre anni fa, ma che si avvale della conoscenza di un ricercatore corretto e puntiglioso, quale l’autore, ha visto un impegno davvero straordinario che è ben difficile contabilizzare; quest’opera esprime al meglio come l’amore per la conoscenza è un valore aggiunto che nessuna società pragmatica basata sui valori del mercato e dei numeri potrà mai reprimere. - I have been interested in the history of Roman Anzio and its territory for many years. I am convinced that there is still much research to be done in order to interpret the motivations which induced a population led by pragmatic men, but with evident technical and scientific knowledge passed down from the strong cultures of earlier centuries, to take a keen interest in such a costly and articulated project. The rational and efficient development of Anzio seems to suggest a plan which goes beyond a spontaneous settlement as an alternative to Rome; it is a complex realisation which suggests a far more important aim. It is through reading texts like this one by Marigliani that we are led to imagine the possible uses envisaged in such a project. This book is a corner-stone in the interpretation of the development of the civilisation of men who, from the foundation of Anzio to the last century, have not only determined the "history" of this territory. The path to power from the Sumerians to the United States of America of today, also runs through the history of Anzio and here traces remain which invite further investigation. It is for this reason that we invited Clemente Marigliani to write this book with his ability to show the facts in the light of observations taken from everyday life, his analysis of details, his critical re-visiting of ancient texts which he can make speak, as few can, far more eloquently than collections of dates, battles, manuscripts of so-called official history. Work on this book started three years ago, but the work, dedication and knowledge of the author, a meticulous and scrupulous researcher, are difficult to quantify and the work involved has been immense; this book is evidence of the love of knowledge as an added value which no pragmatic society based on the values of markets and numbers will ever be able to repress.
